A round white canopy covered the steam powered merry-go-round that was operated by a Unionville resident, Mr. Charles A. Hackney. Featuring “Flying horses” that were described as “gaudily painted sleeds”, the carousel was a favorite of park visitors, especially children. It would cost one penny to ride the carousel. Music from a band organ was heard throughout the park. The carousel was moved to “The Chutes”, a new amusement park on Weathersfield Ave in Hartford, CT in July of 1898.
