Swimming Lake

This was a popular spot for swimming and fishing. A large wooden dock extended into the lake. The lake ended with a dam at its south end, which carried water twelve feet into the brook below. In winter, ice at least one foot thick was harvested by Charles A. Hackney and his team. Laborers sawed the blocks apart and pushed them towards the canal that carried them downstream where they were removed and stored in ice houses for later use. Some of the ice was also stored in the underground cellar located on the Suburban Park grounds.
